Work Life Balance For SoloPrenuers

Work Life Balance Tips for Solo Entrepreneurs

As a solo entrepreneur, do you feel frazzled and sometimes out of balance ? Are you so off balance that you are liable to topple over, with the next gust of wind? When you become a solo entrepreneur, it’s tempting to act like you are invincible and work every hour you can. Forget burning the candle at both ends, you are all out of candle! The constant juggling of work, family and self-care is quite frankly exhausting. Never fear, here are 10 great tips that will help you create the work life balance you crave. Putting them into practice will help you balance your life better, so you have the energy to work, rest and play.

1. Stop!

If I asked you right now if you were breathing, you would probably think I’d lost my mind. However, the truth is that most of us rush through our day like a human doing instead of a human being. We are ruled by a tyrannical ‘to-do’ list and we don’t stop until us and it are done. Stop rushing through every day, just trying to finish that list. Take a couple of minutes at the beginning of each day to assess and prioritise what needs to be done. Are you being as efficient as you could be? Are you trying to do too much? Should you be delegating more? Remember, when you delegate tasks you create followers, when you delegate authority, you create leaders. You are in charge and so if you don’t like the results you are getting, do something about it!

2. Tick tock

Whilst we are taught to budget our money and spend it wisely, we don’t usually give the same amount of effort to budgeting our time. Remember, you can earn more money, but time is irreplaceable. Talk to 10 entrepreneurs and you’re likely to hear the same thing: “I’m an entrepreneur and I’m always on the clock”. That’s the fastest route to burn out if you ask me. Want to be more effective? Want to maintain a grip on your sanity? Then make sure that you set a clear working day for yourself that works with your rhythms. Will you always stick to it? No. but at least it’s there and acts as a reminder that you do need to switch off. Schedule personal and family time each week. Make an appointment in your schedule for those times and guard them jealously.

3. Don’t be a Dinosaur
